Dear Community, as talked about at our AGM on 12 November 2016, please see here the new DRAFT Constitution.
This Draft is based on our current 1982 Constitution and has been put together by current and former members of the Committee and Trustees.

We have been guided by our previous Constitution, and the constitution of other similar communities both in the UK and abroad.

We are confident you will find this Draft to be modernised and relevant to living in the UK and World today.

We arrived at this Draft keeping at the forefront of our minds our culture, our heritage and our common values,
whilst maintaining a vision of a vibrant, inclusive and peaceful Community that contributes to wider society

Please do take the time to read the Draft and let us have your feedback and thoughts.

Writing a Constitution is no easy task, and we appreciate that it is near impossible to satisfy all members at all times.

As you consider and share your input, please do remember to keep in mind the spirit of our Community and the wider vision!!

We are also in the process of translating the Draft Constitution into Gujarati for the elder members and those for whom English is a second language.
We will post it up within the next few weeks. Please do inform family members of this.

We look forward to your good ideas, constructive (and positive!) feedback, and suggested amendments. Please email constitution@bmuk.org by 1 January 2018.

We will  take feedback and make amendments or additions where appropriate.
Depending on the number and nature of the amendments, we will produce a Final Draft or hold a Special Meeting on the draft Constitution.
It is hope that the Community will adopt the Final Draft at the AGM in 2017!
